LEVEL 2 IMPROV Advanced Scene Work & Finding Your Comedic Voice
INSTRUCTOR: Naomi Dixon
DAY / TIME: TUESDAYS 6:30 - 8:30 PM
DATE RANGE: 8 weeks. 11/19, 11/26, 12/03, 12/10, 12/17, 1/07, 1/14, 1/21 skip 12/24 & 12/31
LOCATION: 1006 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland, OR 97214 (ADA accessible)
PREREQUISITE: Kickstand Level 1 or any previous long-form experience with the approval of the Educational Programs Manager

CLASS DESCRIPTION:
 Now that you’ve been set up with the tools for successful scene work, it’s time to strengthen those skills and hone your comedic voice. Level Two will reinforce, revisit, and add nuance to your play, add strong character techniques, explore the concept of justification, and provide a foundational understanding of UCB-style "game-of-the-scene". We will work on recognizing the first unusual or interesting thing that emerges, to build collaborative honest scenes that highlight what you and your scene partner find funny, avoiding tropes and caricatures. Students with any previous long-form improv experience are welcome to register for this class.


This is an in-person class. Upon successful completion of BIPOC Intro to Improv, students may have the opportunity to continue on to BIPOC Advanced Scenework.This is an in-person class.

Naomi Dixon

Naomi Dixon is a Portland-based improviser, writer, and actor with eight years of improv experience under her cool vintage belt (it’s thrifted!). Naomi holds a B.A. in Theatre and Communication Studies from the University of Nevada, and has studied short and long form improv under coaches from Second City Chicago, UCB LA, and Kickstand Comedy, where she has recently served as a teaching intern. Naomi was a proud member of her first improv team, The Utility Players (Reno, NV), with whom she has performed in residency at the Sands Regency Casino & Resort (Reno, NV), and at the Enchanted Forest Gathering (Laytonville, CA).

After relocating in 2019, Naomi currently resides in Portland where you can see her performing at Kickstand Comedy in shows like Secret Aardvark, Velodrome, Broke Gravy & Friends, and GORP. Naomi would like us to note that she is a Pisces Moon, whatever that means.
